Karhu
Hello.
Today I thought I'd taste a "normal" bear, namely a finnish beer named Karhu, mening bear in finnish. It also happens to be my favorite bulk beer, a beer i regard as normal, everyday beer. Not imported or otherwise special. One could say that bulk beers are sold in multipacks, sixpacks for instance. Fourpacks wouldn't count in my books since quite a lot of specialish beers are sold in fourpacks. I would have namedropped some, but could only think of two, Copenhagen and Sol. Anyways, bulk beers = sixpacks.
The picture is from Wikipedia: http://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiedosto:Karhu.jpg
Why do I prefer Karhu over the others? It has taste. Alot of it. Is it complex? No, I don't think so. I said earlier that I'm no expert on taste, remember? Anyways, it has a lot of taste. It's musty, dark and a bit bitter. Simply better than the rest of the bulks; Koff, Karjala, Olvi, Lapin Kulta and so on. I will analyse more of these bulks as I get to it. I just couldn't start with anything other than Karhu.
I just learned as I put the picture up that the most popular beer in Finland is Karhu. Turns out, I'm not that special after all. Shocker.
If you haven't tried a Karhu before... the thought is so horrific i can't bear to think it through... just go get your hands on a bottle if you haven't tried it!
Two posts in one week. Great!
Until next time.
